Here are a couple of pictures of me wearing my Master Chief costume for Halloween in Waikiki.

I learned how to make my costume from the 405th.com “Costume Community of the HALO Universe” last year. I opted to try the “Pepakura” version of the Master Chief costume as I was not skilled enough to try the molded version.

My costume cost over $300 to make and took over 30 days, at more than 4 hours per day, to complete.

I did not have a nice face shield or gun last year. The face shield was made of yellow cellophane last year and everyone could see my face. My gun was a poster board cutout of a Battle Rifle. My helmet did not have any padding or cooling; therefore, I was sweating like crazy and my helmet kept falling to one side.

This year, I purchased a gold motorcycle visor and used that as a face shield. I also mounted a fan and some foam in my helmet. I also found a way to make a more authentic looking Assault Rifle on youTube.

If you are making your own Pepakura Master Chief costume using the information on 405th.com and you have a few questions, go ahead and send your questions to me at nmnoob(at)gmail.com and I’ll try to answer your question as best as I can.

If you were in Waikiki and took a picture of me, I would really appreciate it if you sent me a copy to display on my blog. Send your picture to nmnoob(at)gmail.com and tell me what kind of photo credit you want listed.

What are you going to be for HALO-Ween?

I am going to dust off the costume I wore last year, make a few changes, and wear it again. I am going to be the Master Chief from the video game HALO.

This is me last year…
Home made Master Chief Costume. HALO-Ween Halloween 2007.

The helmet is sitting on my head crooked because I don’t have any foam in the helmet to hold it in place.

My friends and I were into HALO 2 last year, so I decided that I wanted to be the Master Chief. The only Master Chief costumes available last year cost over $2000, so I decided to make one myself. I searched the Internet and found the 405th.com, Home of the “405th Infantry Division - Costuming Community of the HALO Universe”

My friends and family helped me make the costume, and it took us about a month. I spent about $450 to make my costume. I personally spent about 4-6 hours a day on the costume. The costume is made of paper with a layer of fiberglass on the inside for strength. The faceshield is just yellow mylar. The same stuff gift baskets are wrapped in. I didn’t find a suitable face shield until after HALO-ween, so I’m going to use my costume with the new face shield for this HALO-ween. I also found some foam to put in the helmet so it fits snug on my head.

I did an online search this year, and you can now buy a Master Chief costumer for about $80.
